Getting scale right
Scale is the #1 DIY design mistake. Slide to your room width for instant furniture sizing.
2/3 sofa rule
A sofa should span no more than 2/3 of the wall it faces.
Rug sizing
Front legs of all seating must sit on the rug minimum. A too-small rug is the single most common decorating mistake.
Coffee table clearance
2/3 the sofa length, 16–18 in from sofa edge. Never taller than the seat cushion height.

Undertones matter
Mixing a warm beige tile with a cool gray paint makes a room feel off. Pull undertones first.
60-30-10 rule
60% dominant, 30% secondary, 10% accent — in color and materials.
Sample everything
Paint a 12×12 sample and live with it 48 hours in different lighting before committing.

Carpet pad is as important as the carpet itself — a quality dense pad makes even mid-range carpet feel luxurious.

Quartz is the most practical — non-porous, consistent, low maintenance. Real marble requires sealing and acceptance of etching.
